Slotting above the compact A4, the 2022 Audi A6 is the brand’s midsize luxury sedan and is available in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations. In addition to the standard A6, there’s also a performance variant called the S6 that comes standard with all-wheel drive.
The 3.0-liter V-6 replaces a supercharger with a turbo and is now a mild hybrid with a standard 48-volt system.
The A6 is loaded with technology, including a lane centering system that was hit or miss. And there was love-hate (mostly hate) for its cruise control’s traffic-sign recognition, which lawfully follows the speed limit to the point of slamming on the brakes in a transition zone.
The NHTSA gave the 2022 Audi A6 a five-star overall safety score (out of a possible five stars). It only received the Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS after it received a Good rating on all crash tests and a Marginal on the headlight test. In the front collision prevention test, the A6 received an Advanced rating after it reduced the impact of a 12-mph crash by 10 mph and a 25-mph crash by 1 mph.
Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, automatic emergency braking, automatic rear emergency braking, blind spot warning, active lane keep assist, and high beam assist are available on higher trim levels.
