Slotting in between the smaller Q3 and the larger Q7, the 2022 Audi Q5 is a compact luxury crossover that comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Three engines are available on the 2022 Q5 with a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque serving as the base engine. A 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 with 272 hp and 295 lb-ft in the 3.0T trim or 354 hp and 346 lb-ft in the high-performance SQ5 is also available. There’s also a hybrid variant powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four coupled to an electric motor for a total output of 245 hp and 254 lb-ft. However, the Q5 Hybrid is only available on higher trim levels. All variants are paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Q5 Hybrid is the most fuel efficient. The 2022 Q5 2.0T is rated at 20/27 mpg and the Q5 3.0T at 18/26 mpg. With its high-performance focus, the SQ5 is the least fuel efficient at 17/24 mpg.
Regardless of the powertrain combination, the Q5 offers good cargo space at 29.1 cubic feet with the split-folding rear seats up that can be expanded to 57.3 cubic feet. Additional options include an older version of Audi’s older MMI multimedia interface, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, and sport seats.
NHTSA gave the 2022 Audi Q5 an overall crash test score of four stars (out of a possible five stars). In IIHS evaluations, the crossover received the highest rating of Top Safety Pick+ after it received a Good score on all crash tests and an Advanced score on the collision prevention and mitigation test when it reduced the impact of a 12-mph crash by 11 mph (Good is the highest possible score). The Driver Assistance package adds a host of active safety features including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
