PERFORMANCE AND FUEL ECONOMY
The base GLC 300 comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. A plug-in hybrid variant, the GLC 350e takes the same 2.0-liter turbo-four and pairs it to an electric motor for a total output of 320 hp and 413 lb-ft.
Two AMG performance variants are available, the GLC 43 features a 362-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 384 lb-ft and the GLC 63, which is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 469 hp and 479 lb-ft.
A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard on all but the GLC 350e, which uses a seven-speed automatic.
EPA fuel economy estimates for the GLC 300 are 22/28 mpg city/highway with rear-wheel drive and 21/28 mpg with all-wheel drive. The GLC 300 Coupe is less efficient at 22/27 mpg. Move up to the GLC 43 and fuel economy ratings drop to 18/24 mpg while the GLC 63 is rated at 16/22. For the best fuel economy, the GLC 350e is the most efficient with 24/27 mpg. With full charge, the GLC 350e can travel up to 10 miles in EV mode.
The 2019 GLC received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars) and a 2019 Top Safety Pick + rating from the IIHS. Additionally, the 2019 GLC-Class also received a Superior rating on the IIHS’ front crash prevention test after it avoided collisions in 12- and 25-mph tests (Superior is the highest rating for the front crash prevention test).
Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, Crosswind Assist and Attention Assist are standard on all models. Blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
With all seats in place, the 2019 GLC-Class has 19.4 cubic feet of cargo space that can be expanded to 56.5 cubic feet by dropping the second row.
