Keep it cold from dock to door

A refrigerated truck, or reefer, combines an insulated box with a refrigeration unit to keep cargo at a set temperature for the whole route. Restaurants, produce and seafood distributors, caterers, florists, meal-kit companies and pharmaceutical couriers across Los Angeles and the Sacramento region depend on reefers to deliver products fresh and in compliance with food safety rules.

Sizes and refrigeration options

Refrigerated cargo vans handle smaller, frequent drops in dense neighborhoods. Sixteen-foot reefer boxes on an Isuzu NRR or NPR-HD are the most popular all-round choice for local food distribution, and 24 to 26-foot reefers on a Freightliner M2 or Hino chassis carry full restaurant-supply loads. Units can be set up for chilled or frozen cargo, with options such as standby electric power for overnight cooling at the dock, multiple temperature zones, curtains to hold cold air during stops, and data loggers that record temperature.

What to check on a used reefer

On a used refrigerated truck, the box and the refrigeration unit matter as much as the chassis. Ask for refrigeration unit hours, the condition of the insulation, door seals and floor, and recent service records. We are happy to help you compare options, or to source a new reefer body on a chassis cab if you need a specific size.

Refrigerated Trucks FAQ

Can a reefer truck carry frozen food?

Yes, if the unit and insulation are rated for frozen temperatures. We will confirm the rating for each truck.

What is standby power?

An electric plug-in mode that runs the refrigeration unit at the dock without running the engine.

Can you build a refrigerated truck to order?

Yes. We can arrange a reefer body on a new chassis cab.
