Overview
Consider the C-class as all that Mercedes knows about full-size luxury, distilled into a smaller package. Its handsome lines are inspired by its upscale sibling, the S-class, with an interior that continues the theme. The C300 offers a 241-hp turbo four-cylinder, while the C400 boasts a 329-hp twin-turbo V-6. Both have all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission; a rear-wheel-drive C300 will be offered. The ride is refined on the highway but can get soft at the limits.
Safety
The NHTSA gave the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class their highest five-star rating and the IIHS considered the C-Class as a 2022 Top Safety Pick. The Top Safety designation was given because the C-Class scored the highest rating of Good in all five crash evaluations and received the highest rating of Superior for front crash prevention by avoiding a 12 and 25 mph frontal collision thanks to the available Pre-Safe with Pedestrian Recognition driver assist safety feature.
