VELOSTER TURBO R-SPEC
The up-level engine is still a 201-hp, 195-lb-ft 1.6-liter turbo, though it’s retuned so that peak torque arrives earlier (1,500 rpm versus 1,750) mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed twin-clutch automatic that gets sportier programming to hold lower gears when cornering. And augmenting the sport-tuned intake and exhaust sounds made by these engines will be Active Sound Design noises delivered via the sound system and tailored to the drive modes, which now include normal, sport, and smart.

Engineered With The Environment In Mind
Paired with the automatic transmission, the Active ECO System makes a difference. Extensive computer modeling and powertrain performance mapping was used to modify engine and transmission control for fuel efficiency.* The result is up to an EPA-estimated 36 MPG Highway
A modified front suspension, featuring gas-filled hydraulic monotube shock absorbers, delivers a sportier ride, while the Motor-Driven Power Steering (MDPS) has been tuned for increased steering response. Large front and rear stabilizer bars reduce body roll and improve handling and control on the curves.
Torque Vectoring Control (TVC)
When the road turns twisty and you want improved performance in the corners, Torque Vectoring Control (TVC) enhances vehicle stability and safety. It’s standard on Turbo and uses the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) sensors to detect understeer then initiates specifically programmed braking to provide precise cornering without compromising driving dynamics.
Turbo R-Spec Performance Mods
At the core of the Veloster Turbo R-Spec are features that put you in touch with the road and maximize vehicle performance. The 201-hp twin-scroll turbocharged engine is at the top of a features list that includes a B&M Racing® Sport Shifter, sport-tuned steering, sport-tuned suspension with higher spring rates at each wheel and a stiffer transmission mount.
New safety features include forward collision avoidance assist, lane keep assist, blind-spot detection with rear cross traffic alert, high-beam assist, and driver attention alert (which analyzes driving behavior, looking for increased lateral movement in lane, sudden increase of steering pattern, or insufficient lane guidance).
