The IIHS gave the 2022 BMW 2 Series its highest honor of 2022 Top Safety Pick+ for scoring the highest score of Good for all crash evaluations (small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats) and for the second highest score of Advanced for front crash prevention. The 2 Series was able to reduce the speed of a 12 mph frontal collision by 10 mph and the speed of a 25 mph collision by 7 mph thanks to the optional Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation driver assist safety feature found in the available Driving Assistance Plus package. That package also consists of lane departure warning and Pedestrian Protection, a feature that can detect pedestrians and automatically brakes if needed to avoid a collision. Speed Limit Info and automatic high beams are also included in the above package.
