The 3 Series is BMW’s most affordable sedan positioned below the larger 5 and 7 Series sedans. The 3 Series is also offered in Gran Turismo (hatchback) and wagon body styles. When accounting for the entire car lineup, the 3 Series slots above the 2 Series but below the 4 Series lineup in price. The 4 Series comprise the coupe, convertible, and coupe-like four-door variants of the 3 Series models.
The base 2022 BMW 330i comes standard with SensaTec upholstery, 17-inch light alloy V-spoke wheels, dynamic cruise control, ambient lighting, LED fog lights, Servotronic adaptive steering, and BMW Connected Drive services. If you want additional luxury, opt for the Premium package that includes heated front seats, navigation, head-up display, real-time traffic information, and remote services; or purchase the Executive package and your 3 Series will come with adaptive full LED lights, automatic high beams, a surround view camera system, Parking Assistant (self-parking feature), a digital instrument cluster, and Dakota leather.
The high-performance M3 comes standard with M Drive modes, 18-inch M Ferric Grey V-spoke wheels, adaptive M suspension, heated front seats, carbon fiber interior trim with black chrome highlights, automatic headlights, LED headlights, navigation, Harman Kardon surround audio system, and an Anthracite headliner. For additional speed and handling prowess, order the Competition package and get an additional 19 hp (for a total of 444 hp), more direct steering ratio, adaptive M suspension, and improved Active M Differential and dual-clutch transmission (if equipped) settings. The package also includes 20-inch forged Light Alloy wheels, high-gloss black trim, and a Sport exhaust with black-chrome dual tailpipes. The M3 is available in coupe and convertible body styles in the form of M4 models.
The 2022 BMW 3 Series received the highest five-star rating from the NHTSA for the sedan’s overall safety rating. The 3 Series is considered a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS (the organization’s highest honor) for getting the highest score of Good in all crash evaluations and the score of Advanced for front crash prevention with the available Frontal Collision with City Collision Mitigation. The 3 Series was able to reduce the speed of a 12 mph collision by 7 mph and the speed of a 25 mph collision by 6 mph. That safety feature is part of the Driving Assistance package that includes speed limit information and the Active Driving Assistant that consists of lane departure warning, pedestrian warning, and the previously mentioned forward collision warning with City Collision Mitigation. Blind spot warning, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control are standalone options.
