NEW 2022 Mercedes Benz CLS
PERFORMANCE AND FUEL ECONOMY
A new 3.0-liter turbocharged I-6 engine with an internal electric motor powers the base CLS450 and CLS450 4Matic (all-wheel drive) models. The straight-six engine produces 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and comes backed by a nine-speed automatic transmission. When more power is needed, the electric motor will temporarily add 21 hp and 184 lb-ft, totaling 383 hp and a whopping 553 lb-ft. Mercedes-Benz claims a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds for the rear-wheel drive CLS450 and 4.8 seconds for the 4Matic model. Expect to see an CLS53 AMG version later in production.
SAFETY
Mercedes-Benz loaded the new CLS-Class with an extensive list of safety features. Active Distance Assist and Active Steering Assist help the driver maintain a preset distance to the vehicle in front and keeps the vehicle centered in its lane. Active Speed Limit Assist makes sure your vehicle isn’t moving above the speed limit and the Route-Based Speed Adaptation feature slows down your vehicle before curves, intersections, toll booths, and exit ramps. If the Active Emergency Stop Assist detects that the driver is no longer controlling the vehicle, the system will come to a complete stop and can make an emergency call and unlock the doors for emergency responders. Active Lane Change Assist will help the driver steer into the other lane if a vehicle is not detected. Other driver assist features include emergency automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Plus, Pre-Safe Sound, Pre-Safe Impulse Side, and Car-to-X communication.
