PERFORMANCE AND FUEL ECONOMY
The Hybrid is powered by a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine churning out 104 hp and 109 lb-ft of torque connected to a 6-speed twin-clutch transmission driving the front wheels. The gasoline engine is assisted by an electric motor producing 43 hp and 125 lb-ft for a combined hybrid power rating of 139 hp. Mileage-wise, the Blue net an EPA rating of 57/59 city/highway and 55/54 in SEL and Limited trim levels.
The Plug-in Hybrid uses the same gasoline powertrain as the Hybrid, but bumps the power of the electric motor to 60 hp and 125 lb-ft, and increases battery capacity from 1.56 kWh to 8.9 kWh, enabling the Ioniq to travel up to 29 miles solely on electric power. EPA combined mileage for both trim levels is 119 MPGe and a combined rating of 52 mpg.
The Ioniq Electric is propelled by an electric motor producing 118 hp and 218 lb-ft of torque, resulting in an EPA rating of 136 MPGe. With a 28 kWh battery, the Ioniq is capable of traveling 124 miles from a full charge.
The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid is an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick, scoring Good in all crashworthiness categories and Superior in front crash prevention. Tests were performed with an Ioniq featuring the Tech package, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a lane keeping assist system.
UTILITY (CARGO SPACE AND INTERIOR ROOM)
All three Ioniq models share the same four-door hatchback bodystyle. The cargo volume differs owing to battery placement in the Plug-in Hybrid and Electric models, with 23 cubic feet with the seats up; the Ioniq Hybrid offers 26.5 cubic feet. Front leg room measures 42.2 inches, with the rear providing 35.7 inches.
