PERFORMANCE AND FUEL ECONOMY
The 2019 86 is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-four rated at 205 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque with the standard six-speed manual transmission or 200 hp and 151 lb-ft with the optional six-speed automatic. EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2018 86 are 21/28 mpg city/highway with the manual or 24/32 mpg with the automatic.
The NHTSA gave the 2019 Toyota 86 a four-star frontal crash and five-star rollover rating (out of a possible five stars). The IIHS has yet to test the 2019 86 but the 2018 model received a Good score on all but the driver’s side front small overlap impact where it received an Acceptable rating and the passenger side small overlap where it hasn’t been tested yet (Good is the highest possible score).
The 2018 86 has 6.9 cubic feet of trunk space and can be expanded via the standard folding rear seats.
