Vehicle Summary

The MDX is Acura’s flagship crossover and the automaker’s only three-row vehicle. The MDX also has the third highest starting price out of the entire lineup, below the flagship RLX sedan and the NSX supercar. Those who find the three-row MDX too big might also consider the two-row RDX.

Overview

Across the lineup, there are new exterior color options, including Gunmetal Metallic, Majestic Black Pearl, Performance Red Pearl, Canyon Bronze Metallic, and Apex Blue Pearl, the last of which is exclusive to A-Spec models. Desert Olive Ash wood trim and high-contrast interior stitching are added to the lineup, and there are now standard four-way power lumbar adjustments on the driver and front passenger seats.

Under the hood is a familiar 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard. A-Spec models are available only with all-wheel drive. Fuel economy tops out at 20/27/23 mpg city/highway/combined with front-wheel drive or 19/26/22 mpg with all-wheel drive. A-Spec models come in slightly lower at 20/27 mpg.

Safety

The 2022 Acura MDX received the highest rating of five stars for the crossover’s overall safety rating from the NHSTA and is considered a 2018 Top Safety Pick+ for receiving the highest rating of Good in all five crash tests and the highest rating of Superior for the front crash prevention evaluation. The Superior rating was issued because the MDX properly warned the driver of a possible collision and avoided a 12 mph and 25 mph frontal collision thanks to the Collision Mitigation Braking System found the AcuraWatch suite of driver assist safety features standard on all MDX models. AcuraWatch also includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and a road departure mitigation system. Additional driver assist safety features include a blind spot information system, a surround view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert.
