NEW 2022 Lincoln MKZ
While the 2022 Lincoln MKZ isn’t Lincoln’s entry-level vehicle (that’s the MKC’s job), it is the automaker’s least expensive sedan, sitting below the new flagship Continental, which replaces the outgoing MKS in the lineup.
Overview
The 2022 Lincoln MKZ is offered with a varied powertrain lineup topped by the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6. Serving as the base engine is a 245-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 with 275 lb-ft of torque (5 hp and 5 lb-ft more than model-year 2016), with front or all-wheel drive. New for 2020 is a twin-turbo V-6 that makes 350 hp and 400 lb-ft for the front-drive version, and 400 hp when equipped with all-wheel drive. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
An MKZ hybrid is the most fuel efficient option and combines a 2.0-liter inline-four with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack for an EPA rating of 42/39 mpg city/highway. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter engine is EPA rated at 21/31 mpg (front-wheel drive) and 20/28 mpg with all-wheel drive. EPA figures for the twin-turbo V-6 are 18/27 mpg (front-wheel drive) and 17/26 mpg (all-wheel drive).
Safety
The NHTSA awarded the 2022 MKZ sedan a five-star overall rating. While the sedan earn four stars in the NHTSA’s rollover test, it achieved five stars for side crash protection. The IIHS has yet to evaluate a 2022 Lincoln MKZ, but the 2022 Ford Fusion on which the Lincoln is based received a Top Safety Pick+ rating and top marks for front crash prevention (with help from active safety tech).
